BLDC motor applications
Today, BLDC motor technology is widely used in unmanned aerial vehicle systems where coordinating four or more rotors capable of high speed, efficiency and low maintenance is critical. We're also seeing them increasingly integrated into power tools, although BLDC models often carry a significant price premium over their brushed counterparts. Appliances such as washers and dryers include BLDC motors, as well as some fans and water pumps.
Other applications include small cooling fans on personal computers, often powered by BLDC motors. Precision rotating magnetic/optical media (hard drives and CD/DVD/Blu-ray players) also use this technology. Broadly speaking, other applications include electric vehicles, packaging equipment, and medical devices.

Brushless DC motors have no mechanical commutator and brushes, so they naturally do not wear out, require very little maintenance, and are spark-free. They also have less shaft friction and inertia, are quieter, and have a much higher torque-to-weight ratio (power density), allowing them to be much smaller than equivalent brushed DC motors.
BLDC motors have many performance advantages over brushed DC motors. They have high starting torque, which flattens out at rated speed. Because they use real-time electronic control, their speed regulation is precise and insensitive to load changes. Because heat is generated in the outer rotor rather than the inner stator, they are easier to cool. No brushes means less electrical noise is generated, and they can run at higher speeds—up to 100,000 RPM in some cases.
